Governor Pamela Baricuatro Inspires Unity at EVRAA 2026 Opening

The grand opening of the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet 2026 (EVRAA) Meet 2026 turned into a spectacular celebration of unity and sportsmanship on March 1 at the Binaybayon Sports Complex in Baybay City, drawing thousands of athletes, delegates, spectators, and proud Baybayanons. The ceremony was graced by Pamela Baricuatro, Governor of Province of Cebu, who served as Guest of Honor and delivered an inspiring message of resilience and unity across the Visayas.

Governor Baricuatro was warmly welcomed by Baybay City Mayor Jose Carlos L. Cari, Vice Mayor Ernesto M. Butawan, and City Administrator Florante A. Cayunda Jr., together with local officials and event organizers. The presence of key leaders from both host and visiting provinces highlighted the spirit of cooperation that defines the regional athletic meet.

In her address, the Cebu governor expressed heartfelt gratitude to the city for its assistance during the recent earthquake, underscoring the deep bond among Visayan communities. “Sports teach us lessons that go far beyond medals and trophies. They teach discipline, teamwork, humility in victory, and grace in defeat. True sportsmanship is not just about winning—it is about respecting your teammates, your opponents, and the journey that brings all of us together on the same field,” she emphasized. She further declared, “We are not divided by regions or seas—we are united Visayas, and more importantly, united Philippines,” drawing cheers and applause from the crowd.

Beyond the ceremony, the City Government of Baybay toured Governor Baricuatro along the scenic Baybay City Boardwalk, showcasing the city’s vibrant culture and warm hospitality. Spectators were equally captivated by the impressive facilities, seamless organization, and well-prepared program made possible through the collaboration of the Schools Division of Baybay City and the City Government. The electrifying atmosphere and meticulous preparations set a high standard for the week-long sporting event, promising not only fierce competition but also strengthened camaraderie among young athletes across Eastern Visayas.
